Friday's feature: Darlene Stumpf-Westfahl
Introduce yourself & tell us a little about where you live.
Describe your work.
HEY YALL!! I am a very down to earth kind of farm girl that loves to get down in the dirt and play!!
I live with my true soul mate, best friend and husband along with the loves of my life our 3 dogs Buster, Barney, and Bruno.
We have a small farm and bakery in beautiful SW Michigan. Growing up on a farm and having a very creative grandma and mom also we were always either gardening or creating unique handmade gifts for friends and family. I feel truly blessed to be able to earn a living from doing what I love and enjoy selling something I created to someone to either keep or give as a gift to someone dear.
I paint primitive wood items, make altered scrapbooks out of paper bags and also new coffee filters, and love to make altered jewelry. I don't think there is anything I don't want to make!! LOL
How did you come to start making your creations ?
From the time I was old enough to color with my grandma Rose in books Finding inspiration in everyday items and a deep love of creating treasures made me want to challenge myself to create and sell my items.
What is your favorite medium that you use.
Gosh I would have to say paper! paper any and everything! but if you ask me that question again it may be something else like wood or paint LOL
Do you have a favourite colour , fabric, clay you prefer to use?
I don't think there is one color that I don't use and I love working with muslin or linen.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Some days I just love to look at everyday things like some discarded old silverware and decide to make something out of them like wind-chimes.
What influences your work?
this wonderful creative web world and also other creative souls who inspire me to push my creativity levels.
How have you seen your work evolve?
I have to laugh because when my mom and I started craft shows years ago those dang white geese were popular and when I look at them now I cant believe how much I have changed my style and that I feel there is nothing I cannot do.
Can you tell us a little about your process how you make your art/craft?
I love to work in my little studio off the back of our house and just pull out embellishments and go from there.
Where can people find your work website, blog, Etsy.
Chicken Scratch Primitives all my handmade treasures on Etsy
My Sweet Serendipity my bakery goods on Etsy
Chicken Scratch Farm, my blog
What is your favourite piece of clothing and why?
My old pair of denim bibs with a red gingham patch I sewed on the front why? because they are soooooooooo me!

Etsy Tips, making a Treasury
Here is a good link to start with, ETSY HELP
What I like to do is to have at least two windows/browsing tabs open..one for making my treasury list and one for searching through etsy for my favorites.
On the home page click on the treasuries at the bottom of the left side.
You will be on the page which lists treasuries. On the right hand side at the top is "Create a list" button. A page appears with lots of empty boxes and areas for you to add a title, description and tags.
I open a new browser tab and choose in that window what I want to add to my treasury by copying url of the item. Then click on the tab with your treasury you are working on and paste the url into the box under the image box. The item you have chosen will show up.
When you are done take a good look at how the items are arranged, you can always move the boxes around with your mouse. Check your spelling and when you think it perfect click save.
Now if you want people to comment back to you, and this can be time consuming is to contact each seller and let them know that their item has been featured on your treasury. Make sure you copy and paste the url of your treasury page into each email.
The next step is to share it on facebook and twitter.
If you want to make the front page of ETSY with your Treasury Etsy has a few guide lines...
Etsy selects particular Treasury collections for the homepage based on seasonal themes, a strong display of item diversity from across many categories, and strong photos with clearly represented products.
Additionally, we are looking for lists that meet the following basic guidelines:
- No items from the Treasury curator or from their alternate accounts
- No items sold by an Etsy employee or Admin
- A full list, including 4 alternates
- No more than one item per shop
One thing I noticed too was that if you must write your name onto the photo you use for your first image make sure it goes down the very bottom. You will notice that no images on the front page treasuries will have a shops name visible.
For doll makers make sure there is enough room above your dolls head to allow for cropping.
Make sure your first image is the best image of your product.
See if you can spot the mistakes in this treasury.
